Trickle down effects of the Writers Guild Of America writers strike are continuing to impact our favorite television shows. And that means Yellowstone fans are going to have to wait even longer for season two of the prequel series 1923.
Production on 1923 was supposed to have started on Monday June 5, but with no end to the strike in sight, it's anybody's best guess when filming will actually begin.
Bill Melvin, manager of the Civic Center in Butte, Montana, where filming was supposed to have taken place, told NBC Montana that he was informed that the delay will be ongoing. Production is paying Butte-Silver Bow $75,000 per month to use the Civic Center for filming through the end of the calendar year. Already, one 10-day extension of the contract has been requested, with possible further extensions on the horizon if the strike doesn't resolve soon.
1923 stars Harrison Ford and Helen Mirren as the heads of an earlier generation of the Dutton family, set before Yellowstone. The series follows the Duttons as they face hardships such as Prohibition, drought, and the early stages of the Great Depression.
The series was picked up for an eight-episode second (and likely final) season earlier this year, after the series' first prequel, 1883, ran for just one season from December 2021 through February 2022. In addition to 1923, there are a handful of other Yellowstone spinoffs in the works, including Lawmen: Bass Reeves, 6666, 1924, and another untitled sequel series currently in development with Matthew McConaughey in talks to star in the lead role.
