Locker Room Fail Leads to Musty Problem After Giants-Commanders Game

The Washington Commanders' home of FedEx Field is seemingly in need of some structural renovations to keep players and spectators satisfied. After the team lost to the New York Giants on Nov. 19, both squads headed to their respective locker rooms to shower off but were met with an upsetting surprise. 

"We had an equipment failure in the main water heater that provides hot water to the field-level locker rooms," a Commanders official said after the game. "We can’t resolve the matter without completely shutting off the water to the stadium, which is why it couldn’t be repaired in game."

Giants’ and Commanders’ locker rooms at FedEx Field have no hot water for showers.

Neither team had access to hot water in their locker rooms, but the problems didn't stop there. The Giants' locker room reportedly had low water pressure coming out of the shower heads, while Commanders players complained there was no water whatsoever in theirs.

It's the latest incident at FedEx Field that points to deeper structural problems beneath the surface. During a game last year, several fans fell and almost crushed Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts after a metal railing in the stands collapsed. The year before that, a pipe burst and began spewing water on spectators, which the team claimed was just rainwater but witnesses said was sewage.

It's probably a good thing that the Commanders are in the process of finding a new home in the Washington, D.C. area. Hopefully the new venue comes with state-of-the-art showers and sound structural engineering to make up for all of FedEx Field's snafus in recent years.
