Having a knife that you can open with one hand is useful. Having a sharp knife made domestically that you can open with one hand is peak functionality.

The crew over at The James Brand has not been messing around since launching a few years ago, creating a line of every-day detail-oriented tools and other items that are easy to use, thoughtfully designed and feature tremendous durability.

The Wells is their first flipper knife, a smooth action tool with a Magnacut blade and minimalist design that you’ll find handy whether you’re primarily opening mail or cutting braided line 60 miles offshore on a tuna trip.

This one attaches to your belt with a 420 Stainless Steel wire clip. Open it with one hand by releasing the button lock and flipping - straight butter. It can be open with a fast motion flip or the flipper tab. Meanwhile, the other hand is free to hold the steering wheel, the rope that needs cutting or maybe just the orange that needs slicing. The movement is slightly addicting. Said button keeps your fingers from the blade when you’re preoccupied.

The smooth action is thanks to stainless steel ball bearings. The scales of the knife are made of aerospace-grade 6061 aluminum.

Over-achieving functionality with understated design.—Jon Coen, Men's Journal contributor
