March Streaming Guide: What to Watch on Netflix, HBO Max, and More

In our Golden Age of entertainment, the gluttony of options is overwhelming. Here's what we're watching this month.

Winter is thawing and spring is just around the corner. Before you fill your weekends with outdoor adventures, knock some cinematic masterpieces off your must-see list. And in case you don't have one, we made one for you. Here's what to watch on Netflix, HBO Max, Hulu, Disney+, and more in March 2023.

Netflix

What to Watch on Netflix: March 2023

Netflix is getting into live stand-up for the first time this month with Chris Rock: Selective Outrage (March 4). It'll include a before and after show with a number of appearances from comedians and stars like Kevin Hart, Jerry Seinfeld, Amy Schumer, and more.

Penn Badgley reprises his role as Joe in Season 4, Part 2 of You (March 9). This go-around, Joe moves to London and gets involved with a group of wealthy socialites. However, the tables are turned and the stalker becomes the prey.

Idris Elba returns as the iconic detective Luther in the new film Luther: The Fallen Sun (March 10). The movie is a continuation of the titular series and picks up with Luther on the run, having just escaped from prison. Elba is joined by Cynthia Erivo, who plays an officer tracking down Luther, and Andy Serkis, who plays a billionaire who also happens to be a serial killer.

In another continuation, Adam Sandler and Jennifer Aniston are back for Murder Mystery 2 (March 31). The duo are now private detectives who are launching their own agency. Their next case involves a billionaire friend, who's kidnapped on their wedding day—on a private island no less.

Seeking some silver screen standouts? There are plenty of movies to watch this month including Adam Sandler’s Big Daddy, all three movies in the Hangover trilogy, Emma Stone’s high school comedy Easy A, the iconic National Lampoon’s Animal House, Brad Pitt’s zombie action thriller World War Z, Vin Diesel’s sci-fi action flicks Pitch Black and Chronicles of Riddick, and more.

Warner Bros. Discovery

What to Watch on HBO Max: March 2023

The final season of Succession is here. The award-winning series returns to HBO for its fourth season, in which the Roy family will armor up for battle to see who will helm the global conglomerate Waystar Royco (March 26). The third season ended with secret deals and big betrayals, as Logan (Brian Cox) maneuvered to sell the company, leaving his three children out of the mix and looking to find a way to regain control. Ah, nothing like a family power struggle.

Nearly two years after premiering, Perry Mason is back for Season 2 (March 6). Matthew Rhys returns as the titular defense attorney and is looking into a new case after previously taking on a kidnapping. Chris Chalk reprises his role as policeman Paul Drake, while Katherine Waterston, Hope Davis, and Sean Astin join the cast in supporting roles.

This month also marks the season finale of The Last of Us (March 12). If you haven’t watched the series yet, the time is now. Father and daughter, Joel (Pedro Pascal) and Ellie (Bella Ramsey), navigate a post-apocalyptic world crawling with various zombie types. The series is slated for a second season, which will be based off the video game The Last of Us Part II, so you'll want to catch up to avoid spoilers.

With Michael B. Jordan bringing Creed III to theaters in March, it’s the perfect time to watch Creed and Creed II (March 1). You can also catch Sylvester Stallone’s action series The Expendables 1-3, along with Rian Johnson’s The Brothers Bloom, the Paul Rudd comedy I Love You, Man (March 1), the recent reboot of Mortal Kombat (March 8), and Angelina Jolie’s firefighting action thriller Those Who Wish Me Dead (March 29).

What to Watch on Disney Plus: March 2023

It’s been a long wait, but The Mandalorian is finally back after two years. Star Wars fans are eager to see what happens to Din Djarin aka “Mando” (Pedro Pascal) and baby Grogu. The adventure series picks up where parts of Season 2 and the spin-off, The Book of Boba Fett, left off: Din is looking to explore the history of his people by returning to the home world of Mandalore. Mando has been stripped of his true heritage by taking off his helmet. Now he must go back and purify himself in the mines of Mandalore. Little does he know other Mandalorians are looking to gather and may lead to a battle within. The show starts streaming March 1 and will drop weekly episodes.

If you want a little 90's nostalgia, you can stream all four seasons of Neil Patrick Harris’s original medical comedy series Doogie Howser, M.D. starting March 15.

Pamela Littky/Prime Video

What to Watch on Amazon Prime: March 2023

High-profile rock drama Daisy Jones and the Six (March 3) is based on the best-selling book of the same name. The show follows an iconic 1970's rock band's rise to fame. Taking inspiration from Fleetwood Mac and other bands of that era, the series stars Riley Keough as Daisy, while the supporting cast includes Camila Morrone, Sam Clafin, and Suki Waterhouse.

If you didn’t get a chance to catch it in theaters, Jordan Peele’s thriller Nope hits the streamer on March 21. One of the most original films of 2022, the film follows Daniel Kaluuya (Get Out) and KeKe Palmer as siblings who own a horse farm that works with Hollywood movies. When they encounter something that looks like a UFO, all hell breaks loose.

You also can watch one of the highest-grossing films of the year,Top Gun: Maverick (March 24). Maverick (Tom Cruise) returns to the Top Gun academy to teach a crop of new recruits how to prepare for a deadly mission.

If you’re looking for other fun movies to watch, Prime has you covered. Watch Denzel Washington’s crime drama American Gangster; sci-fi thriller Cloverfield; cult comedy Dazed and Confused; action comedy Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels; Oscar-winning Ordinary People; Matt Damon and Ben Affleck’s drama Good Will Hunting; Quentin Tarantino’s Pulp Fiction; Tom Cruise’s Vanilla Sky; and more (all March 1).

What to Watch on Apple TV+: March 2023

It’s time to believe again—Ted Lasso is back. Jason Sudekis and company return for the third and most likely final season of the Emmy-winning comedy series, following the ups and downs of AFC Richmond. It’s been nearly two years since the comedy finished Season 2. Things ended quite dramatically with Richmond scoring late in their final match to secure promotion into the Premier League. But there was even more drama in store, as Ted’s former assistant coach-turned-rival Nate (Nick Mohammed) took a job coaching West Ham United, who will surely face off against Richmond in the third season. The season will have 12 episodes, premiering March 15, then releasing weekly.

The platform is also debuting Extrapolations (March 17), a new anthology series from Scott Z. Burns (Contagion). The series will take a look at the effects of climate change around the world through a range of different characters. It includes an all-star cast with Meryl Streep, Ed Norton, Kit Harington, Daveed Diggs, and Matthew Rhys.

What to Watch on Hulu: March 2023

A comedy classic is getting a sequel with Hulu’s History of the World, Part II (March 6). Mel Brooks is bringing a direct sequel to his 1981 comedy with a new sketch series starring himself, Wanda Sykes, Nick Krol, Ike Barinholtz, Jason Alexander, Jack Black, and a huge roster of all-star comedians and actors.

On the more serious side, crime thriller Boston Strangler (March 17) is also coming to the platform. Based off true events, the movie follows investigative reporters on the case of the 1960's murders. The film stars Keira Knightley as Loretta McLaughlin, the reporter who broke the story, and Carrie Coon as Jean Cole, who works with Loretta to report on the killings (13 in all). The film also stars Alessandro Nivola, Chris Cooper, David Dastmalchian, Morgan Spector, and Bill Camp in supporting roles.

On the movie side, you can catch Bill Murray’s comedy classic Groundhog Day, sports comedy Kicking & Screaming, crime drama L.A. Confidential, Stallone action thriller Rambo: Last Blood, Ben Affleck's crime drama The Town, and the Tom Hanks comedy That Thing You Do (all March 1).
