Get the Game Before the Season Finale of The Last of Us

The show is a hit and you can see where it all started with this PS5 upgrade for The Last of Us

HBO tends to know how to make shows that connect to a wide audience. Even in today's industry which has seen the number of shows that connect in a big way shrink, they can still do it. As we are seeing with the big hit that is The Last of Us. If you're one of those people hooked on this show, you might want to check out where this story all got started. And you can do that with the PS5 upgrade to the first game.

One of the widest things about this game is that it came out 10 years ago. That's a long time in the video gaming world. But through the immense popularity of the game, it keeps getting updated. Starting on the PS3, this got updated for the PS4 and now the PS5, helping keep it modern so new fans can get to it without needing old tech. 

But truly the wildest thing about The Last of Us is the game itself. Very few games in the history of the industry have played so smoothly and come with such a cinematic sensibility that helps pack an emotional punch. At times it doesn't even feel like a game. It feels like a show. Yet that ability to control everything makes it feel even worse when the tragedy lands.

If you haven't jumped into the show yet but are interested and want to try the game first, all you need to know is that The Last of Us is a story set in a world where the zombie apocalypse decimated the world 20 years prior. And in the present day, world-weary and broken man Joel Miller has to transport a young girl by the name of Ellie across the country for mysterious reasons. And along the way, a bond is formed. A bond that will be tested.

All of that is great and all, but it could mean nothing if it wasn't fun to play. And while fun may be a weird way to describe a game that packs this kind of emotional gut punch and shoves your face into the brutality of the world, it is fun. You get so sucked in that you can't look away. Which made it perfect for an HBO show that somehow captured the same spirit of the game.

The Last of US was a runaway hit and it's coming back for season 2. This means you got a lot of time to jump into the game and see where it all started. Also means you can jump into the sequel if you want, and get a sense of where the show may be going (if it stays accurate to the game). But right now, the first season is about to end and it is the perfect time to jump back into the world with this game.
