8 Breweries and Taprooms With the Best On-site Games

Paddle sports, golf, and "brewery curling" are just a few of the top attractions at America's best local beer shrines.

For the over-21 crowd, breweries are our playgrounds. It’s where friends flock and strangers socialize as social barriers dissipate over the flow of craft beer. On our quests to maximize fun, it's only natural to seek out the best craft breweries with games.

And taprooms are upping the ante. They're not just throwing a Jenga set on a table and calling it a day. Across the country, breweries are unveiling more thrilling offerings like bowling and even curling (yes, really). 

From Ohio to San Diego, here are eight of our favorite breweries with games. Fancy a little pickleball with your pint?

1. Land Grant Brewing: Brewery Curling

Columbia, OH

One of the most popular times of year to visit Land Grant Brewing is during the winter when they offer brewery curling on a 1,300-square-foot ice rink. What’s the distinction between brewery curling and the regular kind? Here, players slide kegs (not traditional stones) toward the target (or “house”). During warmer seasons, the rink turns into the beer garden’s turf area, featuring an eight-hole mini golf and putting course, as well as arcade basketball. 

Favorite pours include House Beer lager, Oh Sure IPA, and Lemon Glow pale ale; and, of course, there's a strong roster of seasonal styles like Oktoberfest, hefeweizen, and a holiday lager.

2. Dogleg Brewing Company: Golf Simulator

Vista, CA

A relative newcomer to the SoCal craft beer scene, Dogleg Brewing Company wisely partnered with San Diego-based brewing legend, Jim McCaskey, to establish the area’s first golf-inspired brewery. Dogleg features a putting green and golf simulator, plus loads of TVs to watch pro games throughout the season. 

Beer on tap ranges from a clean West Coast IPA (First Cut) to a traditional Scotch ale (Origins) and tropical IPA (Aloha Press).

3. FlyteCo Brewing: Bowling and Mini Golf

Denver, CO

This aviation-themed brewery couldn’t have found a more perfect home for its second FlyteCo location at the former Stapleton International Airport Control Tower in Denver. The 20,000-square-foot game space comprises six bowling alleys, an 18-hole miniature golf course, and seasonal lawn games. 

Popular brews include Aeromexico Mexican Lager, Fogged Out Hazy IPA, Red-Eye Coffee Amber, and Eddy Pale Ale. Conveniently, there’s a coffee shop on the premises, too, which opens at 7a.m.—technically making FlyteCo the earliest opening brewery in the state.

4. Frontyard Brewing: Pickleball

Austin, TX

This Austin-based brewery missed no beats jumping aboard the pickleball craze. Groups can reserve one of Frontyard Brewing’s six outdoor courts or take their chance with a walk-in. Between matches, cool off with one of Frontyard’s lighter beers (Mexican lager, amber ale, Belgian blonde) or one of their NA options, and refuel with tasty grub from their on-site food trucks. For onlookers, Frontyard’s selection of legendary stouts include a barrel-aged coffee brew and salted caramel, packing a punch above nine percent ABV.

5. Minneapolis Cider Company: Pickleball

Minneapolis, MN

Since taprooms are no longer just about beer, cider lovers will appreciate this Minneapolis site for both its craft ciders made from 100 percent real fruit and its fierce dedication to pickleball. Visitors can book one of the brewery's four courts for a casual afternoon, or join an actual league take their pickleball prowess to the next level. 

Either way, refreshing blends at Minneapolis Cider Company like Mango Habanero and Blueberry Borealis will be waiting when you’re off-court.

6. Golden Grove Farm & Brew: Disc Golf

Piedmont, SC

About 20 minutes from central Greenville, SC, Golden Grove Farm & Brew treats beer enthusiasts to micro-brewed saisons, porters, and hefeweizens (with tap handles in cartoon design) and a nine-hole disc golf course spread over 10 acres. The object of the game is to complete the course with the fewest possible throws. Of course, when you’re sipping outdoors among friends, the game is all about having fun and kind of losing count.

7. Perennial Artisan Ales: Outdoor Ping Pong

St. Louis, MO

When the weather’s warm in St. Louis, residents know there’s nothing better than enjoying the outdoors while it lasts. Perennial Artisan Ales ensures imbibers can appreciate the best of both worlds with its seasonal ping pong table out on the turf and artisan pours. 

“Every beer we brew is made because we enjoy it,” say Perennial’s founders, who oversee an evolving beer menu divided into categories representing availability: rarely, sometimes, always.

8. Stone Brewing: Bocce Ball

San Diego, CA

Known for bold beers with striking labels to match, Stone Brewing strays from traditional style and guidelines with its year-round releases, mixing in special editions as well. Taking advantage of its Southern California backyard, this San Diego taproom features a sprawling outdoor garden outfitted with a bocce ball court. Grab an FML (Fear. Movie. Lions.), Hazy DIPA, or Dayfall Belgian White, then belly up to the foul line to play this deceivingly challenging Italian yard game. For the less competitive, there’s also an outdoor cinema with snacks available from the on-site restaurant.
