When it comes to activewear line debuts, oftentimes the fine line between fashion and function get skewed either one way or the other. Every now and again, a new collection catches our eye. That interest is piqued by unconventional approaches that not only unveil capable and beautiful apparel, but also showcase those items in a compelling way.
Recently, the wildly popular premium activewear brand Reigning Champ did just that when it dropped the Season Two Collection in collaboration with designer Jide Osifeso. With each piece handcrafted in Canada, the whole collection is made from robust technical fabrics and heavyweight knits that result in wonderfully contrasting textures. Add the unique design from Osifeso that blends boxy silhouettes with a refined demeanor.
The new collection features a wide variety of intricate pieces, including Polartec fleece pullover hoodies, flatback thermal T-shirts, cargo pants, and tear-away trousers. With Osifeso’s experimental seamwork at the forefront—and drawing inspiration from the fickle climate of the Pacific Northwest—they’ve successfully created some beautifully designed and constructed utilitarian-focused sportswear.
Also worth a nod: The concept imagery was all shot on location in Lagos, by Nigerian-born documentary-style photographer, Stephen Tayo. The black and white imagery fits the color tones of the collection, the vivid street portraits gorgeously illustrating the collection’s unconventional design.
With pricing of the pieces ranging from $120-$300, the limited production collection is available now on Reigning Champ’s website.
